Outpatient Therapy Program
Welcome to Recovery Is a Beach’s Outpatient Therapy Program, where we provide flexible, ongoing support for individuals continuing their recovery from addiction. Our outpatient program meets you where you are in your journey — offering the clinical guidance you need while you rebuild your everyday life.
What Is Outpatient Therapy?
Outpatient Therapy — sometimes called standard outpatient care or “OP” — is the most flexible level of care in our continuum of treatment. It’s designed for individuals who have already completed a higher level of care, such as residential treatment, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), or an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and are ready to continue their recovery with less structured, longer-term support.
Unlike PHP or IOP, which involve several hours of treatment multiple days a week, Outpatient Therapy typically consists of one to a few sessions per week. This allows clients to fully return to work, school, and family responsibilities while still receiving consistent clinical care, accountability, and support as they navigate early sobriety in the real world.
Who Is Outpatient Therapy Right For?
Outpatient Therapy is often the right fit for someone who:
- Has completed residential treatment, PHP, or IOP and is ready to step down to a less intensive level of care
- Has a stable, substance-free living environment and a solid support system in place
- Needs ongoing accountability and clinical support while managing work, school, or family life
- Wants to continue individual or group therapy on a long-term basis to reinforce recovery skills
- Is managing a co-occurring mental health condition that benefits from continued, regular therapeutic support
Outpatient Therapy can also serve as a starting point for individuals with a milder substance use disorder who don’t require a higher level of care to begin with — our team can help determine the right entry point through a full clinical assessment.
What a Typical Week in Outpatient Therapy Looks Like
Because Outpatient Therapy is designed to fit around your life rather than the other way around, your weekly schedule is built around your specific treatment plan. A typical week may include:
Individual Therapy
One or more sessions with your primary counselor, continuing the personal work started in earlier stages of treatment.
Weekly Group Therapy
A weekly session focused on relapse prevention, coping skills, or peer support alongside others in recovery.
Psychiatric Check-Ins
Periodic check-ins with a psychiatric provider for medication management, as needed for your treatment plan.
Family Therapy
Sessions scheduled as needed to support relationships at home and involve loved ones in the recovery process.
Educational Resources & Support Groups
Continued access to educational resources and support groups that reinforce what you learned in earlier stages of treatment.
Sessions are typically scheduled during the day or evening to accommodate work and school commitments, and frequency is adjusted over time as you build stability in recovery.

Key Features of Our Outpatient Therapy Program
Flexible Scheduling
Our outpatient program is built around your life, not the other way around. We offer flexible session times to accommodate work, school, and family commitments while keeping you connected to consistent clinical support.
Individualized Treatment Plans
Just as in our higher levels of care, our team works closely with you to develop a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. Your plan may include individual therapy, group therapy, medication management, and other evidence-based practices, adjusted as your needs evolve.
Continued Clinical Support
Outpatient Therapy isn't a lesser form of care — it's a different kind of support suited to this stage of recovery. You'll continue to have access to licensed therapists, psychiatric care, and medication management as needed.
A Long-Term Recovery Community
Recovery doesn't end when structured treatment does. Our outpatient clients remain part of a supportive community of peers and clinicians who understand the ongoing work of maintaining sobriety.
Relapse Prevention & Life Skills Reinforcement
Sessions continue to build on the coping strategies, relapse prevention skills, and life skills developed in earlier stages of treatment, helping you apply them to real-world situations as they come up.
Benefits of Choosing Outpatient Therapy
Maximum flexibility — the lowest time commitment of any level of care, designed to fit around work, school, and family.
A natural step-down after PHP or IOP, helping you maintain momentum without an abrupt end to clinical support.
Continued accountability through regular check-ins, reducing the risk of relapse during the transition back to daily life.
Cost-effective, ongoing care compared to more intensive levels of treatment.
Long-term relationship with your care team, who already understand your history and treatment goals.
Outpatient Therapy vs. IOP vs. PHP: What's the Difference?
It's common to wonder how Outpatient Therapy compares to other levels of care:
Most Intensive Outpatient Care
Partial Hospitalization (PHP)
Offers several hours of treatment per day, most days of the week — the most intensive outpatient level of care.
Moderate Structure
Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
Involves fewer hours per week than PHP, typically a few sessions spread across several days.
Lowest Time Commitment
Outpatient Therapy (OP)
Involves the fewest scheduled hours of any level of care — usually one to a few sessions per week — making it the right fit for those with a stable foundation in recovery who need ongoing, lower-intensity support.
Many clients reach Outpatient Therapy as the final stage of a longer continuum — starting with detox or residential care, stepping down to PHP, then IOP, and finally to standard outpatient support — before eventually transitioning to independent, self-directed recovery with occasional check-ins.

Length of time varies widely by individual — some clients continue for a few months as a step-down from more intensive care, while others maintain periodic outpatient sessions for a year or longer as an ongoing part of their recovery maintenance.
Most insurance plans that cover addiction treatment also cover outpatient therapy sessions, often at a lower cost-share than more intensive levels of care. We offer free insurance verification to help you understand your specific coverage.
Not necessarily. While many clients step down into Outpatient Therapy from a higher level of care, it can also be an appropriate starting point for individuals with a milder substance use disorder, determined through a clinical assessment.
Yes — flexibility for work and other responsibilities is one of the main advantages of this level of care. Sessions are typically scheduled to work around your existing commitments.
